01 / BEGIN WITH A WALK

Little steps.
Lovely discoveries.

Casa Ober is your starting point. Pick a few stops, leave room for spontaneity and enjoy Brașov at your own pace.

01 / CULTURE & HISTORY

Council Square

Council Square is a natural place to get your bearings in the old town: the Council House stands before you, colourful façades surround you and other historic streets are close by. View the square from different corners, then continue towards the Black Church or Republicii Street. It makes a useful first stop for understanding how the main landmarks connect.

02 / ARCHITECTURE & HERITAGE

The Black Church

The Black Church is a Gothic landmark and a place of worship for Brașov’s Evangelical community. Look at the façades and the building’s proportions from outside before deciding to enter. An indoor visit deserves its own time, separate from a walk around the square; check visitor hours and observe any restrictions relating to services, photography or access.

03 / STREETS & LITTLE DISCOVERIES

Rope Street

Rope Street is a small discovery rather than a whole-day destination. The narrow passage reveals a different scale of the city, contrasting with the openness of Council Square. Include it in a walk towards the Șchei Gate area, leave space for other pedestrians and continue into Șchei if you have time to explore further. Check local access, which may be temporarily restricted.

04 / NATURE & VIEWS

Tâmpa Mountain

Tâmpa offers two distinct experiences: an urban stroll along the promenade at its foot and a mountain outing towards the higher ground. Keep that distinction in mind when planning time and equipment. For an easy day, choose the promenade; for a hike, consult Salvamont routes, the weather and current conditions. If you prefer cable transport, check that it is operating on the day before building your itinerary around it.

05 / HERITAGE & NEIGHBOURHOODS

Șchei & the First Romanian School

Continue from the old town towards Union Square and the courtyard of Saint Nicholas Church. The First Romanian School Museum occupies the old school building in this courtyard. Choose this area if cultural heritage interests you and you want to extend your walk beyond the most photographed landmarks. Check museum opening hours and visit arrangements separately.

06 / WALLS & THE CITY’S PAST

The Weavers’ Bastion

The Weavers’ Bastion connects a walk beneath Tâmpa with the story of Brașov’s fortifications. It is a useful stop for understanding the city as an old fortified settlement, rather than simply a collection of attractive façades. Combine the area with the promenade; check courtyard admission and any exhibitions or events with the organiser.

02 / WIDEN YOUR HORIZONS

A little more time.
A little further away.

If you are here for a few days, save one for the surroundings. Arrange transport separately and check access for your chosen date.

MOUNTAIN AIR

Poiana Brașov

Poiana Brașov changes the rhythm of your trip, taking you from city streets to the resort at the foot of Postăvaru. Winter plans may focus on snow sports; in warmer months, on walks and trails suited to your experience. There is no need to fit every activity into one day. Choose a main one, check lift or trail conditions and leave time for the return journey.

A DAY WITH A STORY

Bran Castle

Plan Bran as a separate outing, allowing for return transport, the castle visit and time in the village. Choose a day and consult the official website for tickets and access before arranging travel. Keeping other stops to a minimum gives you freedom to spend longer there and avoids a rushed schedule. Do not assume that every experience at the site is included in the same ticket.

03 / AN IDEA FOR YOUR DAY

Brașov, without the rush.

A simple idea for a day out, to adapt to the weather, your energy and your curiosity.

MORNING

Coffee & the old town

Head towards Council Square, admire the Black Church and discover the surrounding streets. Stop wherever something catches your eye.

AFTERNOON

A little fresh air

Continue towards the promenade beneath Tâmpa for a stroll. If you would rather stay in the centre, make time for Rope Street and a café break.

EVENING

Back to Casa Ober

End the day at your own pace. Ask our team about a table at the restaurant and enjoy a little rest after a day of discoveries.

MORE THAN A LIST OF SIGHTS

A weekend with time for each place.

Independent outing ideas to adapt yourself; arrange transport and admission separately.

01

Day 1 · Old town and Șchei

Begin with Council Square and the Black Church, then continue towards Rope Street and the Șchei Gate area. After a break, head towards Union Square if you also want to visit the First Romanian School Museum. Grouping these stops into a day helps you follow the city’s changing character from the main square into Șchei.

Not every building needs an indoor visit. Choose one or two places for which you want admission tickets and save the rest of the day for walking, photographs and spontaneous stops.

02

Day 2 · Choose nature or Bran

If you want fresh air, dedicate the day to Tâmpa or Poiana Brașov, depending on the weather and how active you want to be. If you prefer a cultural outing, choose Bran and save the mountain for another time. These are alternatives, not stops that must all be fitted into a single day.

Before setting out, check travel in both directions and the final connection you plan to use. When you return, continue the evening at the restaurant or choose a short walk in town.

03

If it rains or you travel with children

Swap a mountain day for an open museum, an indoor monument visit and longer meal breaks. With children, a shorter route and one main visit leave room for tiredness, snacks and things that catch their attention along the way.

Paving, steps and narrow passages can affect a route with a pushchair or reduced mobility. Check access at individual sights and choose an easier way back than your outward exploration route.

BEFORE YOU SET OUT

Seasons, transport and the right pace.

A few practical choices make the difference between a long checklist and a day you enjoy.

01

Spring and summer

Use the mornings for walking and allow breaks during warmer hours. Combine the old town with the promenade beneath Tâmpa; if you choose a mountain trail, follow the forecast and changing conditions. A good day does not require many sights, but enough time between them.

02

Autumn and winter

Shorter days call for more compact routes. Choose a cluster of old-town visits and keep an indoor alternative for poor weather. If you head to Poiana Brașov for skiing, check open slopes, lifts and the equipment you need separately; the resort’s presence does not guarantee conditions on your chosen date.

03

Getting around without rushing

For the old town, build your route around nearby stops. For Poiana Brașov, RATBV publishes route and timetable information for line 20 from Livada Poștei to the resort. Consult the operator for that day’s schedule and any changes rather than relying on a timetable saved earlier.
